Namobuddha is a sacred and one of the major Buddhist pilgrimage site in Kathmandu located about 40 kilometers southeast of Kathmandu, Nepal. It is situated on a hilltop at an altitude of 1,750 meters. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and panoramic views of the Himalayas.
As per the Buddhist legend, Namobuddha is the site where a prince named Mahasattva offered his body to a hungry tigress and her cubs out of compassion. The prince had seen the tigress and her cubs starving and offered himself as food to save them. As a result of his selfless act, he was reborn as the Buddha in his next life. The name "Namobuddha" means "Hail to the Buddha" in Nepali.
Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery is the main attraction which is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery built in the 1970s. The monastery is home to about 250 monks and features traditional Tibetan architecture and art.
Visitors can also visit the nearby Namobuddha Stupa, which is a white Buddhist stupa built on the site where the prince offered his body to the tigress. The stupa is surrounded by prayer flags and offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
